Outdoor Activities

Affectionately referred to as the “River City,” Sacramento offers residents and visitors a wide array of outdoor activities to enjoy year-round. The 32-mile American River Parkway is a beautiful paved pathway along the American River for walking, running and cycling. The 13-mile Laguna Creek Parkway runs parallel to local creeks and is perfect for horseback riding, fishing and bird watching. About a half-hour away, the CSUS Aquatic Center offers water sports for all ages including kayaking, water skiing, canoeing and more.

Golfers will enjoy the countless private and public golf courses, including nearby William Land Park and Emerald Lakes Golf Course, a beautiful 9-hole course perfect for all levels of players.

If you like outdoor shopping and farm-fresh produce, you’ll enjoy Sacramento’s many year-round Farmers’ Markets offering fresh fruits and vegetables from local growers, flowers and more. And for a relaxing night of entertainment during the warm spring and summer months, pack a picnic and head to one of the many local parks featuring the Sunset Concert Series or family movie night under the stars!

Just beyond the Sacramento area, outdoor enthusiasts can choose from hiking and camping in the beautiful Yosemite Valley, strolling along a Pacific Coast beach or skiing in Lake Tahoe’s Sierra Nevada mountain range.
