Within the acute care hospital, services include three medical/surgical inpatient units, an obstetrics unit, intensive and coronary care units, specialized pediatric beds, and intensive care nursery, one of Sacramento's busiest 24-hour emergency departments, and a full range of diagnostic and therapeutic resources including MRI and lithotripsy. The hospital, which opened in 1973, is licensed for 175 beds, 29 designated for acute rehabilitation services. The Emergency Department was recently expanded to meet the growing needs of the community.

Methodist Hospital's primary service area encompasses southern Sacramento city and county, an area of almost 250 square miles. The medical campus also serves one of the area's most demographically diverse communities.

To the south, new subdivisions and planned communities in and around the burgeoning town of Elk Grove are attracting young and middle to high income families. With a population that is expected to increase by more than 300,000 residents by 2015, this is one of California's fastest growing regions.

To the north of the campus are working class neighborhoods, as well as some of the region's most disadvantaged and ethnically diverse populations. Access to ongoing primary care is a continuing challenge, as are other health-related issues such as teen pregnancy and substance abuse.

Bruceville Terrace (Skilled Nursing Facility)

Bruceville Terrace is a specially designed skilled nursing facility located immediately adjacent to the hospital and Mercy Family Health Center.
