First-Year Residents (2011-12)
William Austin | UC Davis, School of Medicine
William grew up in Northern California and attended UC Davis for his undergraduate education majoring in exercise biology. He then completed coursework at Sacramento State for a Masters in Kinesiology prior to attending UC Davis School of Medicine where he graduated in 2011. William is thrilled to have the opportunity to finish his medical training in the Sacramento area and looks forward to the next three years in the Methodist Family Practice Residency Program. In the future, William sees himself in a rural practice where he is the quintessential small town doctor. William's family is a great support and he enjoys spending time with his wife, daughter and their dog, Copper. |

Arlin Chin | SUNY Upstate Medical University
Arlin is an avid musical enthusiast, a dancing fanatic and a dedicated athlete. Born and raised in San Francisco, Arlin broadened his perspective of the work with travel, experience, humor and introspection. He attended UC Berkeley as its National Merit Scholar in 2000 and graduated with a BA in molecular and cell biology. Arlin completed his medical school training at SUNY Upstate Medical University and now enjoys his time back in a more reasonable climate. In his limited free time, you can find Arlin socializing with family and friends, playing a musical instrument or practicing the healthy lifestyle that he preaches. |

Nicole Culman | Touro University College of Osteopathic Medicine
Nicole was born and raised on a small farm in Kentucky. Discussing books, movies, medicine and music are all things she enjoys and is pursuing with her fellow residents. Athletic activities are high on her list of priorities and California is an ideal place to pursue these. New adventures in medicine and travel are a few of the things Nicole is looking forward to over the course of her residency program, as well as the opportunity for international electives. Great training and strong didactics are features of the program that she is already enjoying. Everyone deserves competent and adequate healthcare and this program's emphasis on the underserved was greatly appealing to Nicole. Rufus, her dog, is the love of her life. Nicole is looking forward to three great years with a great group of people. As a side note, Nicole likes word games. |

Luis Juarez | UC Davis, School of Medicine
Luis grew up in Southern California and attended UC Davis for his undergraduate education. At UC Davis, Luis received his degree in clinical nutrition which furthered his interest in medicine. Luis then continued to UC Davis School of Medicine. He enjoys sports, outdoor activities and is ecstatic to be a part of the Methodist Family Practice Residency Program. |

Edward Lam | University of Hawaii
Edward was raised in Honolulu and attended college at the University of Hawaii at Manoa where he earned a bachelor of science degree in microbiology. Following his undergraduate studies, Edward stayed in Hawaii to complete his medical school training at the University of Hawaii. He is excited to continue his training in family medicine with the Methodist Family Practice Residency Program and hopes to continue growing and learning as a competent and compassionate physician. In his spare time, Edward enjoys traveling, hiking, gardening and spending time with friends and family. |

Nancy Nguyen | Touro University College of Osteopathic Medicine
Nancy grew up in Orange County. She attended UC Irvine for undergraduate studies and Touro University College of Osteopathic Medicine for medical school. For clinical rotations, Nancy moved to Denver where she learned to fly fish and appreciate Rockies baseball. As much fun as it was, Nancy is a California girl at heart and knew it was time to return. She is excited to join the Mercy Methodist family and begin this next adventure in her life. Nancy lives in Midtown with her trusty sidekick, Scooby. When not at the hospital, you can find Nancy hanging out with her fellow residents, riding around town on her cruiser, reading a non-medical book or watching her dog "hunt" flies. |

Anthony Saetern | University of Buffalo, NY
Anthony grew up in Fairfield, California in a large family of 10 rough and tumble kids. He is the first in his family to graduate college and the first to go into medicine. Anthony's six brothers and three sisters are amongst his best friends and his grandmother is the cornerstone of his foundation. He attended UC Davis for undergraduate studies and ended up on the east coast for medical school at the University at Buffalo. After several freezing winters in Buffalo, Anthony made his way home to pursue a residency in family practice and is thrilled to be at Methodist Hospital because of the excellent reputation, teaching and patient diversity. Anthony's vision is to work with the underserved community in Sacramento, providing excellent care to individuals from all walks of life, regardless of socioeconomic status. When not ear-deep in studying, he enjoys weight lifting, softball, paddling and anything that keeps him active. |
