Mercy's Family Practice Residency Program at Mercy's Methodist Hospital of Sacramento was established in 1994 to teach physicians in training - residents - primary healthcare skills. The Family Practice Residency Program resides on the Methodist Hospital campus for several reasons, among which are:
- the benefits residents receive from the broad patient base located in the southern suburbs of Sacramento
- the strong community presence
- a sophisticated educational foundation
The Family Practice Residency Program at Mercy's Methodist Hospital has received the highest level of residency accreditation and is nationally recognized for excellence in training, quality of residents and patient care. The program features an ethnically and culturally diverse faculty who strive to live up to their reputation of being the most supportive and approachable possible, plus an equally diverse resident and patient population. The medical team is dedicated to teamwork, professionalism, mutual support and wellness.
The primary focus of the Residency Program is quality education, with a priority of caring for the underserved - a reflection of the healthcare mission of CHW and the Sacramento area Mercy hospitals. A core group of faculty teaches the residents within various settings, providing much needed medical care for the community. Many patients, including the underserved, access the healthcare our residents provide at locations including:
