Caring for 75,000 patients yearly - meeting community needs
Sacramento, CA, Feb. 26, 2009 – Methodist Hospital of Sacramento today will celebrate the grand opening of its newly-expanded emergency room with a blessing ceremony in front of the $38.7 million facility, which will open to patients on February 27.
“Methodist Hospital’s expanded emergency room marks a milestone in our hospital’s history of serving the health and medical needs of this community,” said Tim Moran, president of Methodist Hospital. “Our new modern emergency room is equipped with innovative technology systems and staffed with highly specialized surgeons and medical professionals to provide life-saving care to our patients.”
The Methodist Hospital emergency room currently treats more than 44,000 patients every year and sees one patient every 11 minutes. The newly expanded facility has the capacity to treat 75,000 patients a year. The projected need is 65,000 patients a year in south Sacramento by 2020.
Methodist broke ground on the project in the spring of 2007. The expansion increases the number of emergency room beds from 15 to 29 with private beds and the ability to treat critical patients in each room. The facility nearly tripled in size from 8,100 to 21,876 square feet. Other enhancements include a four bay ambulance entrance, three critical resuscitation rooms and a decontamination room. In addition, remodeling of existing emergency department space for the new patient waiting room, registration and other support services will be completed over the next several months.
“A trip to the emergency room can be stressful for patients and their families,” said Cindy Myas, director of Methodist Hospital’s emergency room. “Our new emergency room is designed to treat patients faster and to provide comfort during their visit.”
Methodist Hospital serves the health and medical needs of all south Sacramento residents, regardless of their ability to pay.
City and community leaders will join the Sisters of Mercy, Methodist Hospital leadership, physicians and employees as Bishop Jaime Soto blesses the building that houses the newly expanded emergency room. The ceremony will be held Thursday, February 26, at 11 a.m. on the hospital campus at 7500 Hospital Drive in Sacramento.
