New, Expanded ER Under Way

Like many Emergency Rooms, Methodist is busy - the difference is we operate above our current physical capacity. The number of patients treated in Methodist's ER in 2006 was more than 110 patients a day, equaling more than 40,000 patients a year. This is a large increase over previous years and will continue to rise with the projected growth in our community.

Methodist's new ER is being designed to meet the current and future needs of our community and will accommodate the long-term growth projections and future demand for healthcare services.

Today's Emergency Room:

  • Treats more than 40,000 patients each year
  • Has 14 patient beds in an 8,100 square feet area

Tomorrow's Emergency Department (opening 2009):

  • Will have the ability to care for 65,000 emergency and trauma patients each year (the projected need by 2010)
  • Will have 29 patient beds in a 21,000 square feet area
  • Specialized surgeons and medical professionals
  • State-of-the art technology
